The Gender Gap: Despite representing 50% of deaths, women only write 20% of obituaries
A report released by McKinley & Company on Monday indicated that women have hit the pine box ceiling in America. Despite representing 50.5% of deaths in the U.S., women are still underrepresented among obituary writers.
However, the report authors couldn’t remember if women wrote only 20% of all obituaries or if only 20% of women wrote all obituaries, citing the sudden death of the study’s assistant investigator, Sharon Torvaldson.
Such disparity has been viewed as unfair, given the rise in the prestige of the obituary writing profession since the billionaire space race began.
Failing to address such gaps may have grave consequences for women who like to write too, but don’t like to die that much.
